Searching for the perfect ranch property in Texas can be a long and arduous journey with much to consider about the area you choose. If you plan to live full time on your ranch, the decision can involve many other considerations about the town itself. What if you could find a property right in the middle, only 15-20 minutes from each of three beautiful and historic Hill Country locations: Bandera, Kerrville, & Medina?

Bandera is a blending of Indian, Mexican, Polish and Western cultures giving the town a unique ambiance not found elsewhere in Texas. Many bloody battles between Apache and Comanche Indians and the Spanish Conquistadors took place in Bandera Pass (12 miles north of Bandera on Hwy 173). Legend has it that, for years afterwards, a red “bandera” (Spanish for banner or flag) was flown at the site to define the boundary between Spanish and Indian hunting grounds. The cypress trees that outline the course of the Medina River brought the first permanent settlers to Bandera. Bandera’s title, “Cowboy Capital of the World” originated when it became a staging area for the last great cattle drives of the late 1800s. Confirming Bandera as the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, a bronze monument honoring the many National Rodeo Champions who call Bandera home, stands on the Courthouse lawn.

Medina has been named the “Apple Capital of Texas” due to its abundance of apple orchards and the fact that for years they hosted the international Apple Festival each year. These festivals had live music, street dancing, apple samples, volleyball tournaments, a petting zoo, face painting, and seminars. The festival featured several different apples from Texas and became a competition to all states and countries to see who could produce the freshest apple. One main award they give out at each event is the best apple pie. Although the festival no longer occurs, people come to Medina and taste all different kinds of apples. The Love Creek Orchard is open to the public year-round. The orchard has eleven different kinds of apples, including Granny Smith, Fuji, Jonagold, pink lady and gala apples. They also have baked goods, like apple pie, apple butters and apple bread. In October, you can pick your own pumpkin from the Great Hill Country Pumpkin Patch. They also offer unlimited hayrides, a petting zoo, apple orchard tours, paint a pumpkin, storytelling, petting and grooming a pony, and paint a mural.

Kerrville is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, is a special paradise with friendly people, where the air is always clean and fresh, and the low humidity climate is wonderful year-round. Known for breath-taking views, recreational facilities and cultural activities, our unique city has long been recognized as the healthy area of Texas, offering an active life style with many fun and exciting things to do. Kerrville, and the surrounding area, is loaded with historical sites where events occurred that have shaped the history of Kerrville. Kerrville’s healthful climate, its wildlife and scenery gave rise to tourism. After the 1940s the area attracted a new generation of postwar “living city but thinking and singing country” Texans.
